Viruses
New viruses are appearing all the time, and we would strongly recommend that you install a good anti-virus program and keep it up to date. Ant-virus programs are often available on the cover disks of magazines, but you may have to pay an annual subscription to get the updates.
Two of the best-known anti-virus programs are the Norton range of products from Symantec and McAfee. Click on the names for further information.
You should be wary of e-mails from unknown sources, especially those with an attachment, and messages with strange subjects or no subject.
We do not carry out research for people, but do have various services on offer to members. We do not charge a fixed fee for most of these services but ask for donations to Society funds as appropriate.
There are local record agents who will work for a set fee, and an enquirer
should ascertain these fees before they commission work to be done on their
behalf. You may purchase a single journal for £2.50 to see who advertises in
our journal, but we cannot recommend any one researcher in preference to another.

Please either contact your ISP or download the latest version of your browser from their website.
You can also get latest versions from some discs on the front of Computer Magazines.
If you are using Windows 95/98/2000, please go to the Microsoft Update site and check for the latest news and updates.
The website is regularly updated, and you may need to change your computer settings so that you automatically see the latest version.
Here is what to do if you are using Internet Explorer Version 6, but there are similar options with other browsers.
Go to Tools and select Internet Options. Select Temporary Internet Files, followed by Settings. You will see the heading "Check for newer versions of stored pages", followed by four options
Every visit to the page
Every time you start Internet Explorer
Automatically
Never
I suggest you choose one of the first two options. Click OK twice to exit.
The best option really depends on the speed of your internet connection. Your computer keeps a file on the hard disc of the web pages you have visited. When people had slow or unreliable dial-up connections, it was useful to be able to retrieve pages from this file, rather than go to the web server. With faster connections, especially broadband, it is better to retrieve the page from the server each time, as you will always get the latest version.
I cannot get pages to 'Print Off'?
For Microsoft Internet Explorer (4.0 & 5.0):
If you wish to print any of the
individual pages( with white backgrounds for ease of printing) simply right click on a blank area of the page in the right
hand frame and choose print from the pop-up menu. Using the file menu on your
browser will cause your printer to print the empty frames that are the structure
of this site.
For Netscape Navigator:
If you wish to print any of the individual pages, first click on that page to highlight it and then choose 'Print frame' from the 'File' menu.
