Burials 1754 - 1866

Before the National Burials Index Project was launched, the Society, or individual members of it, had started to produce such Burial Indexes for our area.

Jane Baker was first off the mark, and she produced single-handedly a 'Surname, Forename and Age' Index to burials registered in all the Bristol Anglican Parishes, in many parishes outside Bristol, and even in a significant number of Non-Conformist Chapels.  This Index, in microfiche form, is currently still available from the Society Shop.  Thanks to the efforts of Ken and Megan Edwards, Jane Baker's data with an extended index, is now available on CD for the Shop - entitled "They Lived in Bristol".

The National Burial Index Project, organised by the Federation of Family History Societies, following a proposal by the British Genealogical Record Users' Committee in 1994, has also made a considerable contribution to this area.  In response to this National Project, the Sodbury Vale Group of the Bristol & Avon Family History Society undertook the transcription, checking and indexing of a tranche of parishes across the north of the 'County of Avon' as listed below (in alphabetical order).
