Shirehampton
Cemetery - Monumental Inscriptions Here you will find the monumental inscriptions of 3483 individual burials in 1679 graves indexed by surname. Shirehampton is in the west of Bristol. The recording of the older part of the Cemetery was completed in 1986. The part of the cemetery beyond the circle rest area has not been recorded (the burials there are after 1980) . These Memorials are also included in the Bristol & Avon Family History Society Memorial Inscriptions Index. To reach Shirehampton Cemetery leave the M5 at junction 18 or the Portway to the roundabout at junction 18. Take B4054 to Shirehampton. Turn right into Meadow Street at 1st traffic lights. Turn left into St Mary’s Road and follow this road until you reach the burial ground which is on the right hand side. Any Queries on the burial records can be made at Canford Cemetery Office, Canford Lane, Westbury on Trym, Bristol BS9.3PQ Tel. No. 0117 9038280 where the registers of Shirehampton Cemetery are held. To find a record, select the index page for the name you are searching from the index table below; on that index page, click on the grave set number for the entry you want to look at and this will take you to a page that shows the inscription details. Any adjacent inscription with the same set number on the page applies to the same grave. Once on a page, you can also explore the records by moving backwards and forwards through the 84 pages of records but as they are simply listed in the order they were originally recorded it is probably more useful to look up names using the index. Note that the death dates are shown in the format year/day/month. Return to Bristol & Avon FHS Home Page

The brown area is a small building. The Catholic area is marked in yellow and all other areas recorded are marked in green. The data was recorded in 1986. The cemetery is well cared for by Bristol City Council but some inscriptions may now no longer be readable - and some monuments have had inscriptions added. Many of the monuments have been removed for safety reasons and this is an ongoing project.
