About us, how we can help

The Database

This Plaque placed outside 51 Avon Street, Stratford, Ontario was dedicated on 19th August 2001 to commemorate the contribution of "Home Children" to Canada.

Descendents of these children heard their stories and used press, television and journals to raise awareness of what had happened to their parents and grandparents.

The Bristol, children were only a small percentage of the 100,000 who were taken out by many different agencies including Barnardo's, Quarriers, both Church of England and Roman Catholic societies.  From the city of  Bristol, children went with Maria Rye, Annie Macpherson and the Bristol Emigration Society.

Our Wish is that Bristol children will not be forgotten

We have recorded as much information as we could find in various records. The result is a database of names which we hope to include on this website in the future.  If you think that one of your family was emigrated in this way we would be happy to do what we can to find them.
