A nationwide study of workhouses by Peter Higginbottom, this site has pages about the workhouse and asylum at Stapleton. There are also links to the pages dealing with the Barton Regis and Bedminster Poor Law union workhouses, and to workhouses in other parts of the country.

  Link   Coal Mining History Resource Centre
The last mines in our area closed a long time ago, but this site will be good background interest if you have mining ancestors. The UK's largest and most comprehensive website concerning the history of coalmining - including a searchable database of over 164,000 recorded accidents and deaths. The site is now maintained by a company of solicitors (based in Yorkshire) as "A memorial to those who paid the ultimate price of coal." Well done them!
